Buttermilk scones

Half of everyone I know and I are on the constant hunt for the scone recipe. You know what I mean, the it-tastes-like-I'm-in-England scone recipe.

Frankly, these aren't it. Frankly, they're fucking delicious anyway, in their own way. They don't have the true scone texture, but man, that buttermilk makes these guys magic.

Ingredients

2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
5 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF
  2. Sift dry ingredients together
  3. Cut in the butter
  4. Combine the buttermilk and vanilla, and then add to mixture. Mix as little as possible, until just combined.
  5.  Divide dough in two, patting out each half into a disk, then cut each disk into 6 wedges.
  6. Place on parchment lined sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
